Bird Spike is an all round product, it is designed to deter all bird types, especially larger feral pigeons, doves, seagulls, and crows. We are a Cape Town company located in Muizenberg, South Africa.

Bird Spike is the long term solution. The product is made from a superior material polycarbonate, a German import. This clear durable plastic once combined with UV resistance, carries a 10yr guarantee.
Bird Spike is the cost effective solution. The unique ‘three spike’ design sports an impressive 15cm width, which means you use less, and therefore you pay less.

The installation is easy. First determine the surface type, and then choose the procedure.
The spikes can be installed onto most flat surfaces – that includes all ledges, window sills, roof tiles, and aircon.

Brooks Bros Contractors developed this product after +1Oyrs in the business of bird proofing.
They designed the unique ‘three spike’ bird spike after having worked with several less effective ‘two spike’ bird spike products. The first spike Brooks Bros worked with they bought from a supplier called Flock Off. It was a longer ‘two spike’ bird spike set in a V shape. It was however not cost effective at an expensive +R55 p/m, and that was before installation.
Another contractor soon made his own mould based on the above spike, under the name Migrate. It was a shorter ‘two spike’ bird spike, also set in the traditional V shape. Migrate however was made from a cheap plastic, and its slighter value, although reasonable at +R25 plm, eventually saw its discontinuation on the greater market.
After some extensive research into the international bird proofing market, Brooks Bros partnered with a private supplier, who now exclusively produces the unique ‘three spike’ bird spike for them.
Installation
If Bird Spike is to be installed onto a flat surface – that includes all ledges, window sills, roof tiles, and aircon units – you may use any dealer approved adhesive with the aid of a standard silicon squeeze gun.
You can secure to surfaces using either of the following:
- Silicon or adhesive in a caulking gun
- Rivet, nail or cable tie through holes in the base
Silicon adhesive, which sells for arount +-R25 per tube at your local Mica. One tube will also fix +-7 LM of Bird Spike. Please note: silicon holds a lesser guarantee of+-12 months, whereas polyurethane may last up to three times longer than that.
If Bird Spike is to be installed onto a round surface – that includes piping, down pipes, roof beams and guttering – you may use cable tire to secure the two. In the case of guttering, drill consecutive holes along the gutter lip then secure the Bird Spike with cable tire.
Competition
Other bird proofing products available on a local scale:
- Bird Repellent Gel: This silicon based gel is a US import. Firstly, it is very expensive at R125plm to install. Then it holds a 2yr guarantee in sheltered places with only a 6mnth to 1yr guarantee in exposed areas. Lastly this product melts in the heat, and besides the obvious- the gel spreading to car surfaces via the birds, it is harmful to the birds.
- Metal Spikes: This system is expensive and harmful to the birds.
